Apple macOS 11 (Big Sur) Advisory Update

At this time, SSCERT continues to recommend holding off on upgrading to macOS11 (Big Sur).  This is a major update, and we are finding that some common software programs are still not compatible with the new version.  Consider upgrading only if you have light usage (i.e., running Zoom meetings, checking and responding to email, using latest Office Productivity suite) on your Mac device(s).

These include the following:

  • Sophos Anti-Virus (waiting on updates)
  • Various Adobe products
  • Older versions of Mac software

If your Mac operating system is currently running on macOS 10.14 (Mojave) or 10.15 (Catalina), you do not need to do anything at this time.  Apple fully supports these versions.

If you are running macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or older, please consider upgrading to macOS 10.14.  Here are instructions from Apple.

Please contact the SSCERT Service Desk at support@ssc.ucla.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
