Security

SSC works actively to maintain the security of information and devices connected to our network. Our efforts include maintaining a firewall, scanning email for viruses and spam, periodically checking for devices vulnerable to known exploits, and monitoring for malicious network traffic. We strive to provide faculty, staff and students the information, resources and support they need to stay secure.

We encourage all users to take the following basic steps with computers they control:

  1. Keep your system up to date with all relevant Microsoft software patches.
  2. Maintain an up-to-date and active virus scanner.
  3. Maintain a personal firewall.
  4. Stay alert for Phishing (attempts to con users into divulging private information) and Spyware (software that gathers user information).
