Class Web Sites

Since 1997 Social Sciences Computing automatically creates class websites for every undergraduate Social Sciences class, and optionally for grad classes. The software used to do this is called ClassWeb. It is a home-grown program which has been released as open-source. ClassWeb is highly integrated with the Registrar, My.UCLA and the Library. When a class website is created, it is automatically linked from both My.UCLA and the Registrar's websites. Students login to the private sections of ClassWeb using either their BruinOnline ID and password or their UCLA ID and URSA Pin, the same way they register for classes. Faculty have an additional login method. ClassWeb features include:

  • on-demand student rosters and rostermail
  • multiple discussion, homework and annotation boards
  • web surveys
  • TAs can have their own class websites
  • daily notification summary of discussion board postings

Because the ClassWeb software was written internally, it is easy to change. The program is continuously adapted and upgraded based on faculty input. Please contact Mike Franks if you have any suggestions or questions regarding ClassWeb. You can contact Caroline Tam for ClassWeb training. These links provide additional information:
