What is Gauss?

The GAUSS Mathematical and Statistical System is a scientific data analysis and visualization package for efficiently solving large scale problems. Central to the system is a fast, extendible, interactive array language that incorporates hundreds of built-in functions, such as LINPACK, EISPACK and BLAS. Program development features include a source-level debugger, data translation, transparent support for complex numbers, a foreign language interface for calling compiled `C' and FORTRAN programs, and extensive - extendible on-line help. Publication Quality Graphics provide powerful 2-D and 3-D visualization of data. Optional modules provide a wide range of cutting edge solutions while being completely customizable and extendible with the GAUSS language.
