Instructions on how to enable and disable the email vacation message feature for @ssc.ucla.edu email accounts.
Go to:
https://webmail.sscnet.ucla.edu/src/login.php
- Login using your regular user ID and password.
- Click the "Options" link.
- Click the "Vacation Message" link.
- At the vacation message screen, check the box labeled "send auto-reply to sender"
checkbox and fill in the subject
line and message area with whatever it is you want to tell your correspondents.
- Then scroll down and click on "change settings." You can test the vacation message by sending an email
to this email address. Incidentally, you can use this same screen to automatically forward your messages to
another address.
- To disable the vacation message, simply uncheck the "send auto-reply to sender" checkbox.

- Go through the installation routine. (detailed instructions)
- When you are done and the program is running, hit "quick connect" and type in host: sscnet.ucla.edu user
id: your email id
- Click connect.
- Type "6" for vacation messaging.
- You will be asked, "You have a message file in /u/[your_department]/[your_name]/.vacation.msg. Would you like to
see it?" Type "y" for yes.
- Edit the message with your vacation information.
Note that "$SUBJECT" is a placeholder for the subject heading of the email sent to you. For example, if you
receive an e-mail with the subject "hello," then "hello" will be substituted for "$SUBJECT" in your vacation
message.
- Note: If you have previously created a vacation message, you will be asked if you wish to edit the message.
Hit CTRL-X to quit editing the vacation message. "Save modified buffer?", type y for yes.
- At the next prompt, "File name to write...", press Enter. You will then be asked if you want to see the
message. Type y or n.
- The next question will ask whether you would like to edit the message again. Type y or n. Then you will
be asked if you want enable the vacation message. Say yes by typing the letter y and then hitting Enter.
- Congratulations - you have successfully setup a vacation message.
- To disable the vacation message: Return the vacation message menu (Option 6).
- At the prompt that follows, answer no to the 2 questions which appear on your screen by typing the letter
n and hitting enter. And enter y for yes to disable your vacation message.
- Your vacation message will be disabled.
