SSC Network Outage

SSC network services were restored at around 3pm, June 28, 2014.  The problem was likely caused by a disruption to the building’s chilled water supply (around 3am) which resulted in the overheating and failure (around 5am) of SSC’s main Foundry switch.  Network engineers were unable to repair the switch with backup parts.  All hosts connected to the broken switch were then manually moved over to a standby Cisco Catalyst 6900 switch and all routing were redirected to the new switch.

SSC will look into further optimization of the backup AC unit.  Currently, a tertiary backup AC system is temporarily being housed in the data center in case of any further unexpected disruption to chilled water.
